Interleukin 2 Receptor Beta Subunit (IL-2Rβ)

Target
IL-2Rβ
Molecular classification
Type I cytokine receptor, Receptor
01

Overview

The interleukin-2 receptor beta subunit (IL-2Rβ), also known as CD122, is a type I membrane protein that forms a critical component of the interleukin-2 receptor complex. It plays an essential role in mediating immune responses, particularly those involving T cells and natural killer (NK) cells. It binds interleukin-2 (IL-2) as part of the multi-subunit complex and also participates in the interleukin-15 receptor complex. Therapeutic manipulation of this pathway has been central both for immunostimulation (e.g., cancer immunotherapy using recombinant human IL-2) and immunosuppression strategies.
