The interleukin-2 receptor complex (IL-2R) is a heterotrimeric protein complex composed of alpha (CD25), beta (CD122), and gamma (CD132) subunits. It is expressed on immune cells, particularly lymphocytes, and mediates cellular responses to interleukin-2 (IL-2). IL-2R plays a crucial role in immune regulation, T cell proliferation, and maintenance of self-tolerance. The high-affinity form of the receptor, containing all three subunits, is essential for optimal IL-2 signaling. The soluble form of the alpha subunit (sCD25) can be used as a biomarker for immune activation.
