The interleukin-2 receptor gamma subunit (IL-2Rγ), also known as the common gamma chain, is a critical component of several cytokine receptors in the immune system. It is essential for high-affinity binding and signal transduction for IL-2, IL-4, IL-7, IL-9, IL-15, and IL-21. IL-2Rγ plays a crucial role in T cell development, NK cell maturation, and B cell function. Mutations in IL2RG cause X-linked severe combined immunodeficiency (X-SCID).
