Overview

Interleukin-20 receptor subunit alpha (IL20RA) is a type I transmembrane protein and a member of the type II cytokine receptor family that forms heterodimeric receptor complexes with either the IL-20 receptor beta subunit (IL20RB) or the IL-10 receptor beta subunit (IL10RB). These complexes serve as functional receptors for several cytokines of the IL-10 family, notably IL-19, IL-20, IL-24, and IL-26. IL20RA is highly expressed in skin, epithelial tissues, and specific immune cell subsets. Ligand binding leads to activation of JAK/STAT and MAP kinase signaling cascades, resulting in modulation of inflammatory gene expression and regulation of processes such as cell survival, proliferation, wound healing, and tissue repair. IL20RA expression and signaling have been implicated in multiple inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, especially psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, and inflammatory bowel disease. Its clinical significance as a therapeutic target and disease biomarker is under active investigation, with experimental therapies targeting this receptor in development for inflammatory conditions.
