Interleukin-21 (IL-21) is a pleiotropic type I cytokine primarily produced by activated CD4+ T cells. It plays a crucial role in modulating both innate and adaptive immune responses by influencing the differentiation, proliferation, and activity of various immune cells, including B cells, T cells, NK cells, and dendritic cells. IL-21 signals through a heterodimeric receptor complex composed of IL-21Rα and γc/CD132, activating the JAK/STAT signaling pathway.
