Overview

Interleukin 22 Receptor Subunit Alpha (IL22RA) refers to two related proteins, IL22RA1 and IL22RA2, which play distinct roles in immune signaling. IL22RA1 is a membrane-bound receptor subunit that forms a functional receptor complex with IL10RB to mediate cellular responses to IL-22, IL-20, and IL-24. This complex activates JAK/STAT, MAPK, and Akt signaling pathways, influencing inflammation, tissue protection, and host defense. IL22RA2, also known as IL-22BP, is a soluble antagonist that binds IL-22, preventing it from activating the IL22RA1 complex. Altered expression or function of IL22RA is linked to various inflammatory conditions, making it a potential therapeutic target.
