The interleukin-23 receptor (IL-23R) is a type I cytokine receptor that forms a heterodimeric complex with IL-12Rβ1. This complex binds interleukin-23 (IL-23) and initiates signaling cascades that promote the differentiation, maintenance, and expansion of Th17 cells and other immune cell subsets involved in inflammation and autoimmunity. It plays a key role in immune responses at barrier sites and is implicated in the pathogenesis of several autoimmune diseases. Therapies targeting the IL-23/IL-23R axis are used clinically for diseases like psoriasis and Crohn's disease.
