The Interleukin 29 receptor is a heterodimeric cell surface receptor complex composed of IFNLR1 (IL28Rα) and IL10RB subunits. It mediates the biological effects of interleukin-29 (IL-29), also known as interferon lambda 1 (IFN-λ1). Upon binding to IL-29, the receptor activates the JAK/STAT signaling pathway, leading to the upregulation of interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs) and subsequent antiviral and immunomodulatory effects. It is primarily expressed on epithelial cells, hepatocytes, and dendritic cells. The receptor plays a role in antiviral defense, immunoregulation, and can have context-dependent effects in cancer and bone homeostasis. Mutations in IFNLR1 can lead to immune dysregulation.
