Target intelligence / Profile preview

Interleukin-36 gamma (IL-36γ)

Target
IL-36γ
Molecular classification
Cytokine, Interleukin-1 superfamily
01

Overview

Interleukin-36 gamma (IL-36γ) is a pro-inflammatory cytokine belonging to the interleukin-1 family. It is primarily expressed in epithelial tissues, particularly in the skin, gut, and lung. IL-36γ binds to the IL-36 receptor (IL1RL2) and requires IL-1RAcP for signaling, leading to the activation of NF-κB and MAPK pathways and the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines. It plays a critical role in innate immune responses and is strongly implicated in chronic inflammatory diseases such as psoriasis and inflammatory bowel disease. The activity of IL-36γ is specifically inhibited by the interleukin-36 receptor antagonist (IL-36Ra).
