Interleukin 4 Receptor Alpha (IL-4Rα)

Target
IL-4Rα
Molecular classification
Type I cytokine receptor, Receptor, Transmembrane protein
01

Overview

Interleukin 4 receptor alpha (IL-4Rα) is the alpha chain of the interleukin-4 receptor, a type I transmembrane protein that plays a central role in immune regulation. It is ubiquitously expressed on both innate and adaptive immune cells and mediates signaling for both IL-4 and IL-13, which are key cytokines in type II immune responses. Its main functions include promoting differentiation of T helper type 2 (Th2) cells, regulating IgE antibody production in B cells, and alternative activation of macrophages. Recent evidence shows neuronal expression modulates synaptic transmission within the CNS. Allelic variations have been associated with atopic diseases, making it a target for therapies modulating allergic inflammation.
