Interleukin-4 Receptor Type II

Molecular classification
Cytokine Receptor, Interleukin Receptor, IL-2 receptor family
01

Overview

The interleukin-4 receptor type II (IL-4R type II) is a heterodimeric cell surface receptor composed of IL-4Rα and IL-13Rα1 subunits. It mediates the biological effects of IL-4 and IL-13, playing a central role in type 2 immune responses, including host defense against parasites, allergic inflammation, asthma, and tissue fibrosis. It is predominantly expressed on nonhematopoietic cells and myeloid cells. Upon ligand binding, it activates intracellular pathways such as STAT6, driving Th2-type immune responses. Therapeutics targeting this pathway aim to modulate excessive Th2-driven inflammation.
