Interleukin-5 receptor subunit alpha (IL-5Rα), also known as CD125, is a cytokine receptor subunit that specifically binds interleukin-5 (IL-5). It forms part of the heterodimeric IL-5 receptor complex, which is essential for mediating the biological effects of IL-5, particularly in eosinophil biology and related immune responses. Dysregulation or overexpression of this receptor contributes significantly to hypereosinophilic diseases—including allergic asthma—by promoting excessive eosinophil activity. Therapeutically targeting either the ligand or its specific alpha-receptor has shown benefit in treating these conditions.
