Target intelligence / Profile preview
Interleukin 6 (IL-6) is a multifunctional cytokine that acts as both a pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory mediator. It plays critical roles in immune regulation, inflammation, hematopoiesis, metabolism, neural development, and cancer biology. IL-6 is produced in response to infections or tissue injuries and its dysregulation contributes to chronic inflammatory diseases.
Monoclonal antibodies targeting IL-6 or its receptor (IL-6R) block both classical signaling through membrane-bound receptors and trans-signaling via soluble receptors, thus inhibiting downstream inflammatory pathways.
