Interleukin 6 Receptor Alpha Subunit (IL6R)

Target
IL6R
Molecular classification
Type I cytokine receptor, Receptor
01

Overview

The Interleukin 6 receptor alpha subunit (IL6R), also known as CD126, is a type I cytokine receptor and a key component of the IL-6 signaling pathway. The functional IL-6 receptor complex consists of the IL-6 receptor alpha subunit (IL6R/CD126) and glycoprotein 130 (gp130/IL6ST), which acts as the signal transducer. IL6R mediates cellular responses to interleukin-6, which regulates cell growth, differentiation, immune response, acute-phase reactions, and hematopoiesis. There are both membrane-bound and soluble forms of IL6R, mediating classic and trans-signaling, respectively. Dysregulated production or function implicated in diseases such as multiple myeloma and autoimmune diseases.
