Interleukin-6 Receptor Subunit Alpha (IL6R)

Target
IL6R
Molecular classification
Type I cytokine receptor, Receptor, Single-pass transmembrane protein
01

Overview

The interleukin-6 receptor subunit alpha (IL6R), also known as CD126, is a type I cytokine receptor and forms part of the functional IL-6 receptor complex. It binds interleukin 6 (IL‑6) with low affinity; signal transduction requires association with gp130/IL‑6ST. IL6R exists in both membrane-bound and soluble forms. It regulates immune response, acute-phase reactions, hematopoiesis, cell growth/differentiation, and tissue regeneration and is implicated in multiple diseases including autoimmune diseases and cancer. Therapeutic targeting includes monoclonal antibodies and small molecule antagonists.
