The Interleukin 8 receptor (IL-8 receptor) refers to a family of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) that primarily mediate the effects of interleukin-8 (IL-8, also known as CXCL8), a chemokine involved in immune and inflammatory responses. The two main IL-8 receptors are CXCR1 (also known as IL-8RA) and CXCR2 (also known as IL-8RB). Both are seven-transmembrane domain proteins expressed on various immune cells. CXCR1 is highly specific for IL-8, while CXCR2 binds IL-8 and other CXC chemokines. Activation of these receptors leads to leukocyte recruitment, degranulation, and changes in gene expression, playing a crucial role in acute inflammatory responses. Dysregulation contributes to chronic inflammation and cancer progression.
