Overview

Interleukin 9 receptor pseudogene 2 (IL9RP2) is a genomic sequence that shares similarity with the functional interleukin 9 receptor (IL9R) gene but does not encode a functional protein[2][3][5]. Pseudogenes such as IL9RP2 arise from duplication or retrotransposition events and are often scattered across various human chromosomes. While the functional IL9R acts as a cytokine receptor involved in the immune response and signaling via the JAK-STAT pathway[1][2][3], IL9RP2 lacks expression, function, or any known biological activity. There are multiple IL9R pseudogenes (including those on chromosome 9, 10, 16, and 18), but none of these—including IL9RP2—are therapeutic drug targets, molecular biomarkers, or relevant to disease pathology[1][2][3][5].
