Interleukin 9 receptor pseudogene 4 (IL9RP4) is one of several non-functional copies of the interleukin 9 receptor gene found on human chromosome 9q34. Pseudogenes such as IL9RP4 arose through evolutionary duplications and translocations, but have been rendered nonfunctional by mutations and deletions, and cannot produce a receptor. Therefore, IL9RP4 does not mediate any cytokine signaling or participate in biological pathways. Only the functional interleukin 9 receptor (IL9R), encoded on the pseudoautosomal region of the X and Y chromosomes, is involved in immune system signaling and disease.
