Overview

The intermediate conductance calcium-activated potassium channel protein 4 (KCa3.1) is a voltage-independent potassium channel activated by intracellular calcium. Activation leads to potassium efflux, resulting in membrane hyperpolarization, which is crucial for regulating cell volume, immune cell function (particularly T cell proliferation and activation), and other cellular processes. It is a therapeutic target for immune disorders and potentially cancer. The channel is blocked by clotrimazole and charybdotoxin but not significantly affected by apamin or iberiotoxin.
