Target intelligence / Profile preview
Internal dampness pattern in TCM is a diagnostic syndrome characterized by the accumulation and retention of moisture within the body, chiefly resulting from dysfunction of the spleen and stomach's ability to transform and transport fluids. It represents a yin pathogenic factor, associated with heaviness, viscosity, and stagnation, which impedes Qi and blood circulation and leads to various symptoms including digestive disturbances (e.g., bloating, abdominal discomfort, loose stools), a sensation of heaviness, lethargy, and sticky bodily secretions. The syndrome arises through internal mechanisms (weak digestion, constitutional spleen deficiency, poor diet), environmental exposure (damp climate), or both. In TCM clinical practice, internal dampness is addressed through diet, herbs, and acupuncture to restore organ function and eliminate excess dampness.
