Other experimental agents, like Larazotide acetate, target tight junction regulation to restore barrier integrity in conditions like celiac disease. Monitoring this system often involves measuring biomarkers like fecal calprotectin or serum zonulin to assess inflammation and permeability. Overall, maintaining the integrity of the intestinal barrier and the health of the goblet cell population is a critical therapeutic goal in gastroenterology.
