Overview

Intestinal microflora, also known as gut microbiota or gut flora, refers to the complex community of microorganisms—including bacteria, archaea, viruses, and fungi—that inhabit the human gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Mechanism of action

Varies depending on intervention. Antibiotics disrupt the microbiota. Probiotics introduce beneficial bacteria. Prebiotics promote growth of beneficial bacteria. FMT replaces the existing microbiota with a donor's microbiota.
