Intestinal mucosa protection

"Intestinal mucosa protection" refers to the collective physiological and biochemical processes that maintain the integrity of the gastrointestinal mucosal barrier. This includes protection from mechanical injury, pathogens, toxins, and immune imbalances. The barrier is formed by a multilayered defense including mucus (produced mainly by goblet cells), tight epithelial junctions, immune mediators, and repair mechanisms. Disruptions to this protection can result in increased infection risk, chronic inflammation, and contribute to diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer[1][2][4][5].
