Intestinal mucosal inflammation

Intestinal mucosal inflammation refers to the localized immune-mediated inflammatory response within the mucosal layer of the intestinal tract. This process is central to the pathogenesis of conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease), infections, and some drug-induced injuries[2][3][5][7]. It is characterized by infiltration of immune cells, cytokine release, disruption of the mucosal barrier, and tissue damage, leading to clinical manifestations such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, and, in chronic cases, increased cancer risk[1][2][3][5]. Management targets underlying causes and the associated immune responses, not a specific molecular receptor or enzyme.
