Target intelligence / Profile preview
Intestinal mucosal permeability refers to the property of the intestinal barrier that controls the passage of substances from the gut lumen through the intestinal wall into the body. This barrier allows selective absorption of nutrients, water, and electrolytes while restricting potentially harmful substances such as pathogens and toxins. Impaired intestinal permeability, or "leaky gut", is associated with disruption in tight junctions/barrier integrity, leading to local/systemic inflammation, dysbiosis, and translocation of microbes/toxins.
