Dysfunction in intestinal water balance is implicated in various diseases such as diarrhea (increased secretion or reduced absorption) and constipation (excess absorption). Certain drugs, such as NHE3 inhibitors or osmotic laxatives, modulate intestinal water handling to achieve therapeutic effects, but these agents generally target specific molecular mechanisms within the broader context of water balance rather than the process itself[3][2].
