Target intelligence / Profile preview
Intracellular calcium channels are specialized ion channels located on the membranes of intracellular organelles, primarily the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR). They mediate the release of calcium ions (Ca2+) from these internal stores into the cytoplasm, regulating diverse cellular processes including muscle contraction, neurotransmitter release, gene expression, and cell signaling. Major types include Ryanodine Receptors (RyR) and Inositol 1,4,5-Trisphosphate Receptors (IP3R).
