Overview

Intracellular hyaluronan-binding protein 4 (HABP4) is a human protein encoded by the HABP4 gene, located on chromosome 9q22.32. It is a ribosome-binding protein that promotes ribosome hibernation by stabilizing ribosomes in an inactive state, a mechanism important for ribosome preservation, especially in oocytes. HABP4 also binds RNA and is involved in the regulation of transcription and pre-mRNA splicing. It plays a role in PML-body organization within the nucleus and participates in responses to cellular mechanical stimulus. Additionally, HABP4 has been identified as the Ki-1/57 antigen, originally characterized in lymphoma cells but is not recognized as a major drug target or therapeutic protein at present[1][2][6][4][5].
