Target intelligence / Profile preview
The mitochondrial pathway of apoptosis, also known as the intrinsic pathway, is a central mechanism for programmed cell death activated by intracellular stress signals. It involves the Bcl-2 family proteins regulating mitochondrial outer membrane permeabilization (MOMP), the release of cytochrome c, apoptosome formation, and caspase activation, leading to cell demolition. While primarily a death mechanism, it also plays roles in immune signaling and tissue homeostasis.
