Overview

Ion channel-associated proteins are integral membrane proteins that form pores in cellular membranes, allowing the selective passage of ions across the otherwise impermeable lipid bilayer. These proteins are essential for a wide range of physiological processes including regulation of membrane potential, cell signaling, muscle contraction, and neurotransmission. They interact with scaffold proteins, enzymes, regulatory molecules, and other structural components to influence their trafficking to the membrane surface and modulate their activity post-translationally.
