Ion channel-associated proteins are integral membrane proteins that form pores in cellular membranes, allowing the selective passage of ions across the otherwise impermeable lipid bilayer. These proteins are essential for a wide range of physiological processes including regulation of membrane potential, cell signaling, muscle contraction, and neurotransmission.
