Prostaglandin receptors, also known as prostanoid receptors, are a subfamily of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) that mediate the actions of prostanoids—bioactive lipids derived from arachidonic acid. There are eight main types/subtypes of human prostaglandin receptors: EP1, EP2, EP3, EP4 (for PGE₂); DP1 (for PGD₂); FP (for PGF₂α); IP (for PGI₂); and TP (for thromboxane A₂). These receptors are widely distributed throughout the body and regulate diverse physiological processes, including inflammation, vascular tone, platelet aggregation, and smooth muscle function. They are implicated in various disease states and are targeted by NSAIDs and other drugs.
