Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), Natural antisense transcript (NAT), Non-coding RNA

Overview

IPO9 antisense RNA 1 (IPO9-AS1) is a human long non-coding RNA gene transcribed from the strand opposite to the IPO9 gene, which encodes a nuclear import protein. As a natural antisense transcript, IPO9-AS1 is thought to play a regulatory role in the expression of IPO9 or related genes via mechanisms common to antisense lncRNAs, such as modulation of chromatin structure or transcriptional interference. Long non-coding RNAs of this class are involved in regulation of gene expression but do not encode proteins. While many antisense RNAs have reported functions in various biological pathways and diseases, there is limited direct evidence implicating IPO9-AS1 as a therapeutic target or describing its specific biological or pathological implications. The gene is annotated under NCBI Gene ID: 100873949, Ensembl: ENSG00000231871, and HGNC: 40892.

Mechanism of action

Not applicable (There are no drugs known to target IPO9-AS1 directly; antisense RNAs in general can be targeted by antisense oligonucleotides for gene modulation, but this is not documented for IPO9-AS1 specifically)
