Target intelligence / Profile preview
IQ motif and Sec7 domain 3 pseudogene 1 (abbreviation: IQSEC3P1) is a human pseudogene, meaning it is a genomic DNA segment similar to a protein-coding gene (in this case, the IQ motif and Sec7 domain 3 gene family), but it cannot produce a functional protein due to disabling mutations. Pseudogenes are increasingly recognized as having potential regulatory roles, such as modulating the activity of protein-coding genes through the production of noncoding RNAs, serving as microRNA "sponges," or contributing to genetic diversity[1]. However, there is no evidence that IQSEC3P1 is functionally active or associated with any biological pathway, disease, or therapeutic intervention. Its principal role appears to be as a genomic relic without a specific functional or disease implication at present[2][3]. IQSEC3P1 should not be confused with IQSEC3, which may be a functional gene. The “P1” suffix explicitly designates a pseudogene[3].
Not applicable; as a pseudogene, it is not a direct target for drugs or molecular therapies.
