Target intelligence / Profile preview
IQ motif and SEC7 domain-containing protein 1 (IQSEC1) is an intracellular enzyme belonging to the guanine nucleotide-exchange factor (GEF) family, primarily acting on ARF proteins such as ARF1 and ARF6. It facilitates the exchange of GDP for GTP on ARFs, thereby activating them and influencing downstream signaling processes involved in membrane trafficking, actin cytoskeleton remodeling, and cell adhesion. IQSEC1 plays significant roles in neuronal development, synaptic vesicle trafficking, endocytosis, and the regulation of cell adhesion and migration. Reduced levels can result in altered cell spreading and attachment, and it has implications in both intellectual disability disorders and cancer, particularly as a biomarker in non-small cell lung carcinoma
