IQ motif containing C (IQCC)

IQ motif containing C is a conserved protein-coding gene encoding a protein with an IQ motif, a well-characterized calmodulin-binding region of about 25 amino acids that mediates calcium-independent binding to calmodulin. The biological function of IQCC is not fully delineated, but the protein's domain suggests potential roles in protein-protein interaction, cellular signaling, or cytoskeletal regulation—analogous to other IQ motif proteins such as myosins and calmodulin-binding proteins. It is not a classical therapeutic target and has not been established as a direct target for drugs or clinical biomarkers. Some genetic studies have suggested associations with rare diseases (Bardet-Biedl syndrome and thymoma), but there is no established causal or mechanistic disease role or clinical utility as a molecular target at this time.
