Target intelligence / Profile preview
IQ motif-containing protein F1 (IQCF1) is a testis-specific protein essential for male fertility, particularly in sperm capacitation, acrosome reaction, and motility. It contains an IQ domain—a sequence that binds calmodulin, a key regulator of calcium-mediated cellular activity. IQCF1’s biological function is tightly linked to the acrosomal vesicle and flagellated sperm, and knockout animal models exhibit severe infertility due to impaired acrosome reaction and reduced sperm motility. Disease associations are currently limited to male infertility, notably globozoospermia. No drugs or therapeutic agents directly target IQCF1, and no evidence suggests its involvement in other biological or disease processes outside male reproduction.
None known, as there are no drug interactions documented. Mechanistically, IQCF1 is predicted to enable calmodulin binding, affecting calmodulin-dependent processes.
