IRS4 antisense RNA 1 (IRS4-AS1) is a long non-coding antisense RNA that is transcribed from the opposite strand of the IRS4 gene locus. Antisense RNAs, particularly long non-coding types, are involved in a broad range of biological processes that regulate their sense gene, including transcriptional interference, RNA stability modulation, chromatin remodeling, and functioning as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) by sponging microRNAs[3]. While many antisense lncRNAs are known to play critical roles in gene regulation and are increasingly being studied in the context of disease—especially cancer—there is little specific published information about IRS4-AS1 itself beyond its annotation as an antisense transcript at the IRS4 locus. Its precise biological role, disease relevance, and potential as a therapeutic target remain to be elucidated.
