The isocitrate dehydrogenase 3 gamma pseudogene (ENSG00000225477, LOC100631258) is a non-functional genetic element similar in sequence to the IDH3G gene. IDH3G encodes the gamma subunit of the mitochondrial NAD(+)-dependent isocitrate dehydrogenase, an enzyme critical for the citric acid (TCA) cycle. The pseudogene does not produce a functional protein product due to features such as a premature stop codon and other disabling mutations. It is sometimes detected in genomic studies due to sequence homology with functional isocitrate dehydrogenase genes, but it does not have a known biological or disease-related role nor any therapeutic relevance. This entry is a pseudogene—not an enzyme, receptor, transporter, or other classic "therapeutic target"—and should not be confused with the functional IDH3G mitochondrial enzyme subunit.
