Isocyanate scavenging refers to the process of removing or neutralizing isocyanates—compounds containing the highly reactive isocyanate group (-NCO)—from chemical systems. This is typically done to prevent unwanted side reactions, improve product purity, or protect sensitive components from reacting with residual isocyanates. Common scavengers include amines and alcohols, which react with isocyanates to form ureas and urethanes, respectively. Solid-supported scavengers like amine-functionalized silica gels are also used for easy removal via filtration.
