Overview

ITCH antisense RNA 1 (ITCH-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA molecule transcribed in the antisense orientation relative to the ITCH gene. As a natural antisense transcript, ITCH-AS1 may regulate the expression of the ITCH gene through mechanisms common to NATs, including RNA-RNA duplex formation, modulation of mRNA stability, or recruitment of chromatin-modifying complexes. NATs in general play critical roles in gene regulation, sometimes acting as guides, scaffolds, or decoys, and are increasingly recognized as mediators in various physiological and pathological processes. At present, there is little published, experimentally validated information about the specific molecular, cellular, or clinical functions of ITCH-AS1, including its role in disease or its utility as a drug target. Notes: - ITCH-AS1 should not be confused with the protein-coding ITCH gene (Itchy E3 ubiquitin protein ligase), for which roles in cancer, cell cycle control, and targeted therapy are more clearly established. - While NATs are considered potential drug targets or therapeutic regulators, ITCH-AS1 itself has not yet been validated or proposed as a therapeutic target in peer-reviewed studies.
