ITGA2 Antisense RNA 1 (ITGA2-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA gene transcribed antisense to the ITGA2 gene, with regulatory functions in gene expression modulation. ITGA2-AS1 acts as a tumor suppressor lncRNA, potentially downregulating the expression of the oncogenic integrin alpha-2 (ITGA2) by complementary base pairing to the 5′ and 3′-UTR regions of ITGA2 mRNA, interfering with mRNA stability and/or translation. Its main biological significance lies in its role in inhibiting cancer-related pathways associated with ITGA2, including cell proliferation, adhesion, migration, invasion, and epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition[1][2]. No drugs are known to target ITGA2-AS1 directly, and it is not considered a classical therapeutic target.
