ITGB8 antisense RNA 1 (ITGB8-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA that functions as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA), regulating genes involved in cell adhesion and proliferation, notably in colorectal cancer. It exerts its effects by sponging tumor-suppressive microRNAs (e.g., miR-33b-5p, let-7c-5p/let-7d-5p), thereby upregulating integrin family members such as ITGA3 and ITGB3 and promoting downstream focal adhesion signaling. High expression of ITGB8-AS1 is associated with poor prognosis and advanced disease stage in CRC, and suppression via antisense oligonucleotides inhibits tumor growth in preclinical models. Its presence in plasma makes it a promising biomarker for CRC diagnosis and monitoring.
