ITPR3 antisense RNA 1 (ITPR3-AS1)

Target
ITPR3-AS1
Molecular classification
long non-coding RNA, antisense RNA
01

Overview

ITPR3 antisense RNA 1 (ITPR3-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed from the antisense strand of the ITPR3 genomic locus. It does not encode a protein. Instead, like other antisense RNAs, it is thought to regulate the expression of the neighboring ITPR3 gene, potentially through epigenetic or transcriptional mechanisms such as transcriptional interference, alteration of chromatin structure, or RNA-RNA interactions[3]. While ITPR3 itself is an intracellular calcium channel and has recognized roles in cell physiology, ITPR3-AS1's precise biological roles and clinical significance remain to be fully characterized. Due to its molecular class (non-coding RNA), it is not considered a classical therapeutic target.

Mechanism of action

Not applicable for drugs; as a non-coding RNA, it may act by transcriptional interference, chromatin remodeling, or post-transcriptional regulation of ITPR3.

04

Disease associations

Potential roles in diseases in which ITPR3 expression is implicated, such as cancer (e.g., cholangiocarcinoma, liver diseases), based on its possible regulation of ITPR3. ITPR3-AS1-specific disease functions require further validation.
