It is classified as an antisense lncRNA, meaning it is transcribed from the DNA strand opposite to a protein-coding or other gene; these RNAs can regulate gene expression through mechanisms such as RNA-RNA interactions and epigenetic modifications[3][7]. ITPRIP-AS1 has two known exons and a transcript size of approximately 1,275 base pairs[7].
