ITPRIPL2 antisense RNA 1 (ITPRIPL2-AS1)

Target
ITPRIPL2-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), Antisense RNA
01

Overview

ITPRIPL2 antisense RNA 1 (ITPRIPL2-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA gene located opposite to the ITPRIPL2 protein-coding locus. As an antisense RNA, ITPRIPL2-AS1 is transcribed in a direction counter to its paired sense gene and can influence gene expression via mechanisms such as transcriptional interference, binding to regulatory DNA elements, or affecting chromatin structure and splicing events. Although its general class (antisense lncRNA) is known to modulate disease—especially cancer—by regulating sense transcript levels and pathways, direct molecular functions or therapeutic relevance for ITPRIPL2-AS1 remain limited. Observational data links RP11-626G11.3/ITPRIPL2-AS1 to glioma progression, implicating it in pathways regulating cell proliferation through microRNA and transcription factor modulation. No approved drugs or targeted therapies currently exist for this RNA.

Mechanism of action

No established drug mechanisms are reported targeting this RNA. However, antisense RNAs in general may be targeted by synthetic antisense oligonucleotides to modulate gene expression

03

Biological functions

Regulation of gene expression at the transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels via antisense mechanismsPossibly modulates alternative splicing or epigenetic modifications, based on broader roles of NATs (natural antisense transcripts)
04

Disease associations

Cancer: Published data suggests RP11-626G11.3/ITPRIPL2-AS1 promotes glioma progression by affecting microRNA (miR-375) and the SP1 transcription factor pathway
