Overview

JAKMIP2 antisense RNA 1 (JAKMIP2-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed antisense to the JAKMIP2 locus. It does not encode a protein but exerts regulatory functions, primarily by modulating gene expression through RNA-mediated mechanisms. JAKMIP2-AS1 is significantly upregulated in colorectal cancer tissues and cell lines; its high expression promotes cancer cell proliferation and is correlated with worse clinical outcomes. Knockdown of JAKMIP2-AS1 impairs colorectal cancer cell growth in vitro and in vivo, indicating its potential as a therapeutic target and a prognostic biomarker in colorectal cancer[2][5]. As an antisense RNA, its broader molecular role aligns with gene regulation, often through interactions with complementary sense mRNAs or chromatin-modifying complexes[1][4]. There are currently no specific drugs known to directly target JAKMIP2-AS1, and no notable safety concerns have been documented for interventions at this RNA to date.
