Overview

JARID2 antisense RNA 1 (JARID2-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the first intron of the JARID2 gene in the antisense direction[2]. It does not code for a protein and is primarily localized in the cell nucleus, where its expression is tightly anti-correlated with that of JARID2 mRNA[2]. It has been shown to interact with the Polycomb repressive complex 2 (PRC2), a key chromatin-modifying complex involved in developmental gene regulation. JARID2-AS1 is thought to participate in a regulatory loop by recruiting PRC2 to the JARID2 locus, thereby regulating JARID2 expression itself and contributing to the control of developmental and differentiation processes[2]. Its mechanism suggests an autoregulation of the JARID2 gene via epigenetic modulation, but JARID2-AS1 itself is not considered a classical therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or ion channel[2]. No drugs are currently known to target JARID2-AS1 directly, nor are specific safety concerns, biomarkers, or established roles as a therapeutic target described in the literature[2]. Its primary recognized function is the epigenetic modulation of gene expression through interaction with chromatin regulators in developmental contexts.
