Overview

JAZF1 antisense RNA 1 (JAZF1-AS1) is not a well-characterized endogenous RNA molecule. It refers to artificially designed antisense chimeric RNAs targeting sequences within the JAZF1 gene locus. Such antisense RNAs, when expressed in cells, have been shown in laboratory models to induce gene fusions—specifically, experimental studies have used antisense chimeric RNAs to induce the fusion transcript JAZF1-SUZ12, which is implicated in endometrial stromal sarcoma. However, there is not yet evidence of a naturally occurring, endogenous JAZF1-AS1 transcript serving as a therapeutic target or having a defined biological role. Canonically, antisense RNAs are regulatory non-coding RNAs that can modulate gene expression, but in the context of JAZF1, the designated "JAZF1-AS1" appears only in artificial constructs and not as a validated molecular entity[1][2].

02

Mechanism of action

None known. The molecule does not correspond to a drug target.

03

Biological functions

Possibly initiates gene fusion (experimental context only)
04

Disease associations

Possible role in the initiation of fusion genes such as JAZF1-SUZ12 in endometrial stromal sarcoma—studied only in artificial/exogenous settings
05

Safety considerations

None documented; antisense chimeric RNAs may have theoretical risks associated with genome modification, but this is not a clinically characterized risk for JAZF1-AS1
