The JC polyomavirus peptide-MHC complex describes the molecular structure in which a peptide derived from the JC polyomavirus (JCV) is bound by an MHC class I or II molecule on host cells, enabling recognition by T cells and facilitating the adaptive immune response. The JC polyomavirus itself is a non-enveloped, double-stranded DNA virus that can cause progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy in immunocompromised patients[2][3][5]. MHC molecules present viral peptides on the cell surface for surveillance by the immune system[1].
