Overview

The *joining chain of multimeric IgA and IgM pseudogene 1* (JCHAINP1) is a recognized human pseudogene that shares sequence similarity to the functional immunoglobulin J chain gene (IGJ), which encodes the J chain responsible for joining monomers of IgA and IgM antibodies into polymeric forms[1][2][7]. Unlike the functional IGJ gene, JCHAINP1 does not encode a protein and is not known to be transcribed or translated in normal biology. Pseudogenes such as JCHAINP1 result from gene duplication or retrotransposition and often contain disruptive mutations that prevent their expression or function[4]. There are no known biological functions, disease associations, or drug interactions specific to this pseudogene. If a functional target related to immunoglobulin multimerization is desired, the correct entity is the IGJ gene (joining chain of multimeric IgA and IgM)[5].
